Limit switches are suitable for automation of on/ off applications and issue an electric binary signal when the valve travel exceeds or falls below an adjusted limit. Limit switches can send a confirmation signal to a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or a DCS (Distributed Control System) to let the computers know if the valve is open or closed. Very often limit switches have a visual beacon that is on top of the device to allow operators to visually and easily see of the valve is open or closed. These switches need to be classified for the area classification that they are operating in such as NEMA 4, 4X, or 7.
